Match Reports for Women/Premier

28 Mar 10

Knights V Kingborough. Shelley the goal machine with 4 goals led the way in the first half with Georgia & Danielle hitting the back of the net with superb strikes. Georgia’s run down the wing was fantastic to watch. Hattie, Jess, Eliza & Lauren were unpassable at the back, with the midfield of Sammy, Jeni & Holly very active. The second half the saw the two 15 year olds in Hannah Gordon & Tamika Smith join Jess Edmundson on the pitch and the three showed that they will be a future stars for the club with good performances. The Coach admitted to making a mistake at half time by allowing to many changes which unsettled the team, thus we did not score in the second half although having many chances. Les apologised after the final whistle, but also warned that it would not happen again.

Knights V Taroona. A great 1st half performance against one of the top sides being 2 nil up at half time. The second half started well with the team being competitive for the first 25 minutes. After this we went down hill quickly due to fatigue (I suspect from a late Saturday night - the night club stamps give you away). Holly, Danny & Jess again put in great efforts and Shelley showed her obvious class with Taroona double manning her most of the game. Missy battled hard at full back and was well supported by Eliza to her right. Girls If you wish to give the premiership a real fright, as you have shown you are capable of, it will take some dedication, that is doing the right thing by your club, team mates and yourselves. I would like to hear some comments on this matter from team members by email lricho2@bigpond.com be assured what ever is written will go no further than myself.

Knights V University. The senior team completed the quinella with a resounding 2 / 1 win, a great season start for Knights. The score line did not indicate the teams dominance and could have finished with at least 4 other balls in the back of the net. Uni's only goal come from a very doubtful free kick taken by the extremely experienced Mel Minstrel who was dropped back from the Mens side. As usual Bianca was rock solid in goals. Danni played her heart out after playing half of the reserves game and the whole of the Senior's with badly blistered feet. Fitness does count. Maz came away with a black eye and Shelly showed her class up front then dropping to defence for a short period. Holly was superb in shutting down Mel Minstrel with back up from 15 year old Jess Edmunsden who showed game sense well above her age. The leadership group of Captain Sam, Vice-Captains Lauren, Bianca & Danni proved that they are worthy of the teams confidence in them with fine performances. Another 15 year old Tamika Smith put in a good effort on the wing. Georgia showed class with hard work up and down the other wing. Hattie, Ella & Missy played an integral part in the win by coming off the bench after playing Reserves as the players started to flag due to the extreme heat. The Referee called a drinks time out during each half which was not only sensible but also appreciated by players of both teams.

We pass on our best to Krista Nichols who badly injured here ankle but perhaps should not have been played by the Uni Coaches as she is still under medical supervision doing rehab with a further 7 weeks to complete. Krista is only 15, what a price to pay to try and beat our coach.

The coaches, Les Richardson & Rose Wells and the Teams are pleased to welcome Kaye Gordon as Manager & Amey Jamvekar as the home team Ground Manager for season 2010.

GREAT TEAM EFFORTS FROM BOTH SIDES, which should build players confidence for the season. With 3 new signings over the week end we are looking good for the season.
